We are experiencing exponential growth of computing capability requirements. Cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing are developing fast with wide application, which leads to a booming digital economy. As the backbone of digital transformation, the computing industry has become the cornerstone of modern society. However, in this process, the energy consumption and sustainability issues of the computing industry are becoming increasingly prominent. Environmental protection and resource utilization efficiency are now priorities in various industries. Against such backdrop, the Green Computing Development Group of the Global Computing Consortium (GCC) emerged, setting out a blueprint towards green, efficient, and sustainable development.
According to the resolution of the second session of the First Council of the GCC, the Green Computing Development Group was established as a branch of GCC. This committee undertakes responsibilities of the former Green Computing Consortium and continues to advance the improvement of the green computing industry ecosystem.
The Green Computing Development Group holds significant industrial value and influence. First, it accelerates industrial innovation, integrates industrial resources, promotes technological exchange and cooperation, and drives the research and application of cutting-edge technologies. Second, it powers new infrastructure development by enhancing computing efficiency and reducing energy consumption, ensuring the advancement of new infrastructure, empowering the real economy, and assisting the digital and intelligent transformation of traditional industries. Third, it serves as a platform for global industry engagement, promoting collaboration among enterprises and research institutions worldwide while strengthening international technology exchange and knowledge sharing.
In an ever-changing industry, the Green Computing Development Group has a broad and in-depth business scope, covering many key fields. For example, the group will assess the demands for green computing applications and deliver precise technology architectures. It will advance green computing technologies and standards by refining technical systems and frameworks to establish authoritative benchmarks. The group will also drive the development of green computing hardware and software, enhance product supply capabilities, and conduct compliance testing and verification. This includes formulating testing standards for product interconnection and certification, facilitating exchanges on test cases, promoting collaboration among manufacturers in testing and certification, and expanding testing initiatives—all to accelerate the maturity and growth of the green computing industry. In addition, based on the development of green computing technologies and the industry, the Green Computing Development Group will produce research reports and policy suggestions; it will utilize the advantages of the consortium in developing talents in green computing, foster an open-source ecosystem by establishing a comprehensive community governance framework, and expand the green computing market.
Green Computing Development Group is open to global industry partners. Let's work together to build a thriving and sustainable green computing industry!
